The movie ‘Soul Surfer’, a story about Bethany Hamilton

A movie based on an all inspiring true story of Bethany Hamilton, Soul Surfer in theaters everywhere April 8. Bethany lost her left arm in a shark attack and courageously overcame all odds to become a champion again, through her sheer determination and unwavering faith.

Bethany (AnnaSophia Robb) was born to surf. A natural talent who took to the waves at a young age, she was leading an idyllic life on Kauai, participating in national surf competitions with her best friend Alana (Lorraine Nicholson), when everything changed. On Halloween morning, a 14-foot tiger shark came out of nowhere and seemed to shatter all her dreams.

Soul Surfer reveals Bethany’s fight to recover from her ordeal and how she grappled with the question of her future. Strengthened by the love of her parents, Tom (Dennis Quaid) and Cheri (Helen Hunt), and supported by her youth group leader Sara (Carrie Underwood), Bethany refuses to give in or give up, and begins a bold return to the water.

Bethany has become a source of inspiration to millions through her story of determination, faith and hope. Born into a family of surfers on February 8, 1990, Bethany jumped on the board at a young age. Bethany entered her first surf competition—winning both the short and long board divisions at age eight. On Halloween morning 2003, Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark, which bit off her left arm and seemed to end her career as a rising surf star. After losing more than 60% of her blood and undergoing several surgeries, Bethany began her recovery with an unbelievably positive attitude. Miraculously, just one month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water. Two months later, Bethany placed fifth in the Open Women’s division surf competition and just over a year after the attack she won her first National Title. In 2007, Bethany realized her dream and turned pro. Bethany has since participated in numerous Association of Surfing Professionals and World Tour Events with her major highlight being a second place finish in the ASP 2009 World Junior Championships. “It has been an incredible journey for me and now, I’m just so excited to share it!” says Bethany.

“Bethany’s story is so powerful,” says Soul Surfer Director Sean McNamara. “Most people would have given up after what happened to her, but not only did she make an amazing return to surfing, she excelled at it, and has turned her life into an inspiration for people all around the world. She is someone you look at and think, ‘If she can do all the incredible things she’s done, I can set the world on fire, too.'” says Sean.

Eat healthy on your Kauai vacation

I know how important food is, especially for those on vacation.  Forget about the fast food restaurants and think healthy, and eat well.  Hawaii is known to have some of the best tasting fish in the world, and if you love fish, you will love the Kilauea Fish Market.  A gold mine in my opinion.  So if you’re staying on the  north shore or in a Poipu vacation rental be sure to stop by the Kilauea Fish Market, located in the historic stone building right off Lighthouse road.  It is highly recommended and so yummy, you gotta try it.  They have a mouth watering menu that will keep you coming back for more.  Talk about ‘grinds’.  Fresh fish wraps, organic salads, local plate lunches, fresh island fish poke, local grown meats, and more.  My ultimate favorite, seared Ahi poke salad, served with their signature creamy oriental salad dressing.  I can never have enough of it.  Oh and the staff are always very friendly.  Now open 11 pm to 8 pm.  It is best to call in your order.  They get really busy at all times of the day.  They’ll have your food ready by the time you arrive.  Otherwise, you can drop in and order. While waiting, browse around.  You’ll find a small clothing boutique, real estate office, health food store, hair salon, and ice cream shop shop.  No attire is required.  Casual dining with covered outdoor seating.  What better way to spend your vacation on Kauai.  Combine a wonderful Kauai vacation rental and good healthy food is what really makes for a healthy vacation.  Relax, eat, and enjoy!

Vacation on Hanalei Bay

Hanalei Bay in my opinion is among the top beaches in the world.  It is the largest bay on the north shore of Kauaʻi island in Hawaii. The town of Hanalei is at the mid-point of the bay.

Hanalei Bay consists of nearly two miles of beach, surrounded by mountains. In the summer, the bay is like glass, offering excellent mooring for sailboats, stand up paddle boarding and swimming. The Princeville community overlooks from the northeast entrance to the bay of Hanalei river, 22°12′52″N 159°29′52″W / 22.21444°N 159.49778°W / 22.21444; -159.49778Coordinates: 22°12′52″N 159°29′52″W / 22.21444°N 159.49778°W / 22.21444; -159.49778. During the winter the surf becomes large and is a favorite surf location.

The Hanalei Pier was first built in 1892 to help Hanalei farmers move their taro crops to market. The covered pier’s location near the mouth of the Hanalei River and Black Pot beach has long been a favorite family gathering place for fishing, picnicking, swimming, and playing.  Hanalei Bay Sunset

On April 5, 1824, King Kamehameha II’s royal yacht, Pride of Hawaii, sank near the mouth of the Waiʻoli River, 22°12′14″N 159°30′37″W / 22.20389°N 159.51028°W / 22.20389; -159.51028 (Waioli River mouth), on the southwest corner of the bay after its crew struck a five-foot deep reef a hundred yards offshore. It is believed the captain and crew were drunk at the time. A large section of the ship’s hull washed ashore in 1844 in a winter storm surge, but most of this historic wreck remains buried in silt in the bay. In 1995-2000, archaeologists from the Smithsonian Institution‘s National Museum of American History excavated the wreck and recovered more than 1,200 artifacts. During this excavation, a 40 foot section of the stern was discovered, documented, and then re-buried where it was discovered.[1]

Japanese author Haruki Murakami wrote a short story entitled “Hanalei Bay” set in the area. The story is included in the collection Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman.

This is why Hanalei vacation rentals have become so popular over the years.  You’ll find a variety of accommodations in Kauai at price ranges that fit every budget.  So whether you come alone for business, with family, or friends Allure Kauai Vacation Rentals have a perfect place for you.
