Prince Course on Kauai Closed For Renovation

Many Kauai residents and visitors were saddened to hear the closing of the Prince Golf Course. As of January 29, 2011 the Prince Course shut down business to undergo several months of renovation. A complete renovation of the bunkers began in September 2010, and the course is now closed to allow completion of the project along with other planned upgrades. Reopening is planning for October 2011.
The Tavern Retaurant by Roy Yamaguchi and the Prince Golf Shop, both located in the 60,000 square foot Prince Clubhouse, will continue to operate during the renovation. The Tavern is open for lunch starting at 11 am and dinner from 5 pm to 9 pm daily. If you enjoy rich comfort food, you’ll absolutely love it. Unique dishes, wonderful ambiance, and great service.
The Golf Shop’s operating hour are 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday.

Bethany (AnnaSophia Robb) was born to surf. A natural talent who took to the waves at a young age, she was leading an idyllic life on Kauai, participating in national surf competitions with her best friend Alana (Lorraine Nicholson), when everything changed. On Halloween morning, a 14-foot tiger shark came out of nowhere and seemed to shatter all her dreams.
Soul Surfer reveals Bethany’s fight to recover from her ordeal and how she grappled with the question of her future. Strengthened by the love of her parents, Tom (Dennis Quaid) and Cheri (Helen Hunt), and supported by her youth group leader Sara (Carrie Underwood), Bethany refuses to give in or give up, and begins a bold return to the water.
Bethany has become a source of inspiration to millions through her story of determination, faith and hope. Born into a family of surfers on February 8, 1990, Bethany jumped on the board at a young age. Bethany entered her first surf competition—winning both the short and long board divisions at age eight. On Halloween morning 2003, Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark, which bit off her left arm and seemed to end her career as a rising surf star. After losing more than 60% of her blood and undergoing several surgeries, Bethany began her recovery with an unbelievably positive attitude. Miraculously, just one month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water. Two months later, Bethany placed fifth in the Open Women’s division surf competition and just over a year after the attack she won her first National Title. In 2007, Bethany realized her dream and turned pro. Bethany has since participated in numerous Association of Surfing Professionals and World Tour Events with her major highlight being a second place finish in the ASP 2009 World Junior Championships. “It has been an incredible journey for me and now, I’m just so excited to share it!” says Bethany.
“Bethany’s story is so powerful,” says Soul Surfer Director Sean McNamara. “Most people would have given up after what happened to her, but not only did she make an amazing return to surfing, she excelled at it, and has turned her life into an inspiration for people all around the world. Birthday hike on Kauai!
Activites, Health & Fitness, Hiking, Things to doHauoli La Hanau Lily! A year ago today, my baby girl, Lily Lake Abubo was born. The morning wasn’t looking so good, but despite the rainy weather conditions we decided to do something fun. My husband and I took our 3 keiki on a beautiful hike. It was between Hanakapiai or Okolehau Trail in Hanalei. We chose Okolehau. A perfect one for the kids.
The weather was just right, not too hot or not too rainy. In fact, it was great for hiking. The kids are always so anxious and excited, when it comes to a little outdoor adventure. Lily was very excited on our hike up. We sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Lily, probably about a 100 times until we reached the lookout. Some parts of the trail got really muddy, we had fun getting dirty, the kids especially. What kid do you know does not like playing in mud? Rush and Star trekked along so happily, and so did the parents.
Needless to say, I feel truly blessed to live on this beautiful island, Kauai. A place we all love so dear to our hearts. To spend a day outside with the family on a fun and exciting adventure is what makes us all happy. It is moments like this that we will cherish for a lifetime.
In fact, I recommend anyone visiting the island to take your family on a healthy hike outdoors. You’ll find hiking on Kauai for all levels, for moderate to extreme. Some trails overlook the ocean, while others look over valleys, and waterfalls. Explore Kauai while you can. Please remember to ask local officials for more information on the various hiking trails offered on Kauai. Remember to always be safe and drink lots of water the night before and during the hike.
